Our Story
Captain Rich Fortunato has been passionate about the water since his childhood in Freeport NY. Living near Woodcleft Canal, the now famous Nautical Mile Rich dreamed about running on the open sea. As a recreational boater Captain Rich learned to sail and operate power and sailboats at age 13. Rich took US Power Squadron classes and attended the Longshore Sailing School in Westport, CT. Pleasure boating as an adult took him to ports throughout New England and Florida. In the late 80's and early 90's Captain Rich rigged and raced offshore powerboats winning multiple races, regional championships 2 national and 1 world championship in offshore powerboat racing. Becoming a Master Captain was a logical step with his love for the water. Continuously honing his handling skills, seamanship and vessel management. With experience operating inspected vessels and tour boats along with recreational boating his skills are exceptional. Safety is our highest priority. Captain Rich is a volunteer US Power Squadron classroom instructor in navigation and boat handling courses. Certified by National Safe Boating Council as an on water instructor carrying a USCG Master Credential with Towing and Marine Radio Operators permit Captain Rich has the skills and experience to help you in all facets of boat handling, seamanship and safety.
